4/18/2000 Why is there
a 7-cent difference between mean heating oil prices between Augusta and
the Madison/Skowhegan area? Does it really cost that much to truck it up
here? Or is someone taking more than their fair share on the route? I firmly
believe that our local oil companies are doing their best to keep prices
down, but there seems to be something amiss here. Perhaps its a lack of
local storage? Maybe there's an investment opportunity here... There's rail
service from Waterville thru Norridgewock to Madison, which would be much
cheaper than trucking, if someone had an oil storage facility near the
tracks. The only catch here is that parts of the track are so bad the crew
can only go five miles per hour. Oil cars are pretty heavy, and a spill
would be devastating to the swamp along Martin Stream. Madison Paper Industries apparently is the largest customer of this leg of the rail service, and they have the money to invest. For the sake of our local economy, why not make an investment here, if the railroad company's management is up to the challenge? 4/17/2000 I
just found your site via a link from the Portland Press Herald.
I love it! This is a
great service to the community. I
would like to see more entrepreneurs capitalize by educating and
empowering the public. Keep
up the good work! Let
me know what I can do to help you pressure refusing companies to submit
their prices to your database. Cheers! Mark 4/11/2000 Folks, I first saw it on the The Weather Channels local weather
